I received this sad news earlier this morning from Alex's Mother.
I wanted to let you know personally that my son, Alex McLaughlin, was found dead at his home this afternoon. Alex so loved rocketry and all of his friends in rocketry that I feel certain he would want me to let you know of his passing. I thank you both for being his friend. I don't know yet what kinds of arrangements will be made - but I do not think that a formal funeral will be forth coming. I suspect he would rather have a grand party ... and if it were legal to do so he'd probably like his ashes launched in the nose cone of one of his favorite rockets with deployment at apogee (did I get that right?) I never quite got all the lingo .. but I did love his enthusiasm for rocketry.

Now in the second half century of my life, I can recall but a few characters that stand out in my memories because of their zest for life, their passion for their interests and their joy in friendships. Alex was unique; his intelligence, his daring, his humor...and he was a missileman.
I'll miss him.

Alex was a fine man with a great sense of humor, a lust for life and a great passion for an incredible sport. He will truly be missed. The Rocket events, like BALLS, truly wont be the same w/out his laughter and his incredible rocket visions.
My thoughts go out to everyone who will miss him, who are close to him and to his family who I know will miss an incredible man.
He will live on in our memories with many smiles! :)

I'm still in shock. I was just talking with him a couple weeks ago about machining possibilities for this years BALLS project he was working on with some other folks. It just doesn't compute that he's gone.
Alex will be missed. I cant think of anyone with more gusto and enthusiasm for pushing the envelope.

I'm speechless. Later I'll write a story of how much he meant to my son and I on our rocket excursions.

I had so many important things to do today but now I can't even remember what they were.
I don't have a lot of pix but just reviewing the ones I do have plus the recent BALLS DVD has kept me busy all morning.
Grief is the price you pay when a friend is lost.

Hmmm, the measure of a man is the void he leaves, and I personaly have been feeling the void grow all afternoon. The best complement I could ever give Alex is he was a friend, no strings attached.

having met Alex and his dad back in the early 90s when Monroe was in operation, all I can say is that a great guy has gone way before his time. It isn't supposed to be this way and he will be truly missed.
my thoughts and prayers to the family and his many friends in this tragic time of loss.

I just opened my email and am in shock. Alex brought such energy and excitement to the launches he attended and he will be greatly missed. Personally, he was a great supporter of the Bend Rocketry group's projects and I will always be in debt to him for that. The launches at Brothers certainly won't be the same without him.
