I never had the pleasure of meeting Alex in person, but I do remember him from the online forums as a funny guy who always knew what he was talking about. I was very much looking forward to meeting him at BALLS 16.
Alex, thanks for the help you so generously gave me, and rest in peace.
Godspeed.

Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to meet Alex in person. I exchanged e-mails with him on several occassions, and chatted with him on ROL chat a few times. He always treated me with respect, and always went out of his way to answer questions for me, or to explain a concept in rocketry I was having problems understanding. From reading these posts and speaking with people who met Alex, it is clear that the hobby has suffered a great loss.
God Speed, Alex.

Alex often said "It's all good!" I'm afraid I can't agree with you on that one anymore, Brother.

I first met Alex 3 or 4 years ago at Balls. He was alway very friendly and fun to talk to. He was always one of the first people I looked up when I got to Balls. Not just because of the huge projects he always brought but because of who he was. A nice guy who made you feel welcome. Balls will not be the same without his presence. He was a bigger than life presence. Why do people like this always die so young? Reminds me of John Belushi in some ways. You will be missed.

It is 2am and I could not sleep so was following links from Tripoli, through BALLS, to websites, forums etc ... and ended up at this site. Thank you so much for your tributes to Alex! It is very heart warming to read the comments and memories of his friends in rocketry. Rockets were his passion and his joy in life and his friends were extremely important to him. I heard many many names over the years and got a chance to meet a few of his friends ... but I had no idea how wide his circle of friends truly was. Bless all of you who posted here and all the other of Alex's rocketry friends and cohorts! There is a Celebration of Life gathering being held as a memorial to Alex on April 7, 2007. This will take place at a farm - the home of one of Alex's many friends - just out side of Portland. If you would like to attend please send an email to alexnumbfund@gmail.com and his friend Tyler will get you the information. There has also been a scholarship fund set up in Alex's name through PayPal. This will go to help some young person who has been involved in rocketry to defray some of the costs of attending college. If you would like to contribute just put the above email addy into the where to send funds area of your PayPal account. Again thank you - I treasure these comments and memories shared by those who knew Alex and who shared his love of flying rockets Sincerely Deb McLaughlin

Like many, my first "Alex moment" came about in ROL chat. It took a while to get to "know" Alex, but once I did, I looked forward to finding him online, and the conversations that would ensue.
I always looked forward to Alex' tales of his latest rocketry projects, as well as the photos that he would share.
Who else would ever think to put a powdered donut on the nose of a rocket?
Having seen the Team NUMB shirts, my immediate thought was "How appropriate!" That simple shirt with conveys Alex' sense of humor in a grand fashion.
Alex - You're already missed. The hobby lost something special when you passed away. And I regret never having had the priviledge of meeting you in person.
